TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida could be one step closer to installing cameras on school buses to catch stop arm violators.
The proposed bill passed through the Education K-12 committee today, with a full vote (4-0) in favor of it's passing.
Senate Bill 250 proposes the installation of cameras outside school buses to catch drivers violating stop arms and ticket them up to $275. Money from tickets would pay for the installation and there would be no cost to taxpayers.

It's a move many Americans support. According to a national online survey conducted by Harris Interactive for ACS, 66 percent of U.S. adults support placing cameras on the sides of school buses to ticket drivers for illegally passing.
Other types of camera enforcement, such as red light cameras, have not had that kind of support.

Up next, the bill has one more committee to go through: the Budget Committee. Then it will go to the Senate Floor.
