Norman, OK (Sports Network) - Led by 17 points from Steven Pledger, the
Oklahoma Sooners defeated their in-state rival the Oklahoma State Cowboys,
77-64, in a Big 12 battle at the Lloyd Noble Center.
For the Sooners (14-13, 4-11 Big 12), Romero Osby posted a double-double with
16 points and 13 rebounds, while Cameron Clark finished with 14 points and Sam
Grooms chipped in 10 points.
Keiton Page led the Cowboys (13-15, 6-9) with 29 points, while Brian Williams
scored 11 points and Le'Bryan Nash finished with 10 points.
Oklahoma dominated the opening period, shooting 44.8 percent from the field
while holding Oklahoma State to just 16.7 percent shooting. The Sooners took a
commanding 30-12 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Cowboys found their shot, connecting on 50 percent of
their attempts from the floor, including 12-of-24 from beyond the arc. The
Sooners tried to keep pace, making 48.5 percent from the field, but only hit
on 2-of-6 three-pointers. The Cowboys cut their deficit to just three, 42-39,
with little over 13 minutes to play, but the Sooners scored the next nine
points to push their lead back to double digits, where it stayed for almost
the entire rest of the contest. Oklahoma lead by as many as 20 points down the
stretch, as they coasted to the victory and snapped a six-game losing streak.
Oklahoma dominated in the paint, outscoring Oklahoma State 28-8. The Sooners
also won the battle of the boards, with a 47-32 rebounding advantage.
