USAFA, CO (Sports Network) - Amric Fields knocked down a three-pointer with
20.7 seconds remaining to put the TCU Horned Frogs in the lead and on their
way to a 65-62 win over the Air Force Falcons in Mountain West Conference
action at Clune Arena.
Fields finished the night with 10 points off the bench for the Horned Frogs
(16-11, 6-5 MWC) as they picked up their first conference road win of the
season. J.R. Cadot supplied the team with 16 points and a game-high 13
rebounds, while Kyan Anderson chipped in 13 points. Hank Thorns, who fouled
out after playing 27 minutes, made only one of his 10 field goal attempts and
finished with a mere three points.
The Falcons (13-12, 3-8) were paced by Justin Hammonds who dropped in 17
points off the bench, shooting 8-of-9 from the floor. Taylor Broekhuis was
responsible for 15 points and six blocked shots and Mike Fitzgerald 13 points
and seven boards. Michael Lyons managed only nine points on 3-of-10 shooting
from the floor.
Lyons had just two points in the first half for the Falcons, yet the team
still managed to take a 32-29 advantage at the break. Air Force held the
visitors to just 36.7 percent shooting from the floor through the first 20
minutes of action.
The Falcons held a 62-60 lead late in the contest, but Fields put the visitors
ahead when he drained a three-pointer from the left wing. After adding a
couple of free throws with 3.3 seconds to play, the Frogs braced for a
desperation three-pointer by Air Force, an attempt by Broekhuis which bounced
harmlessly off the backboard.
Rebounding was a key factor in the decision as TCU posted a 44-26 advantage on
the glass.
