WARNER ROBINS, Ga. -- A central Georgia Air Force base has bestowed a rare honor to a former commander.
Robins Air Force Base on Wednesday dedicated its new command and control center to the late Col. Billy Edenfield. The Telegraph of Macon reports that Edenfield served as base commander from 1986 to 1989.
Col. Mitch Butikofer, 78th Air Base Wing commander, said only a couple of other buildings on the military installation are named after someone.
Edenfield commanded the 2853rd Air Base Group, which would later become the 78th Air Base Wing. After his retirement, he went on to serve as president of Middle Georgia Technical College.
