NAVAL STATION MAYPORT, Fla. -- The 70th anniversary of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor is approaching, and the Navy plans to commemorate the event.

A tradition since 1966, according to Navy spokesman Bill Austin, more than 200 veterans will spend a day at sea remembering those lost on Dec. 7, 1941.

Guests will include Florida Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, a 20-year Navy veteran.

The Mayport Fleet Reserve Association Branch 290 is sponsoring the sail onboard USS John L. Hall, a Mayport-based frigate.

Nearly 2,400 Americans were killed in the attack, and about half again as many were wounded.

The attack led the U.S. to enter World War II.
