PALATKA, Fla. -- The Palatka Police Department was able to catch a burglar while he was breaking into a convenience store early Tuesday morning.
Around 4 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a burglary alarm at a convenience store in the 1900 block of Saint Johns Avenue. When police arrived at the store, they found a broken window, however, no one had gone inside the store, according to a news release from Chief of the Palatka Police Department Gary Getchell.
Getchell said due to the recent rash break-ins at convenience stores in the area, the officers were patrolling the 3300 block of Crill Avenue.
While patrolling that area, officers found 17-year-old Tomas McKnight of Palatka while he was breaking into another convenience store, said Getchell.
McKnight was arrested on one charge of attempted burglary, two charges of criminal mischief and one charge of burglary.
He was booked and entered into a secure facility with no bond. Getchell said further charges are pending.
