JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- An Atlanta suburb has rejected a zoning measure for a new gas station, which had become a contentious issue among residents in the area.

Some residents of Johns Creek had fought for months in an attempt to stop the RaceTrac store from being built near a high school, saying it would put children in danger.

CBS Atlanta reports that the Johns Creek City Council voted down the zoning variance on Monday night.

RaceTrac had sought to build the gas station near Parsons and Medlock Bridge roads, not far from Northview High School.
