Groups Rally to Protest Ga. Death Penalty

ATLANTA -- Several groups gathered at the State Capitol Monday to protest the death penalty in Georgia.

The group, headed by the Georgia Chapter of the NAACP, wants the death penalty to be outlawed. Calling the death penalty murder, those opposed to it rallied at the State Capitol to voice their opposition to capitol punishment.

State Senator Vincent Fort has said he will introduce legislation to end the death penalty.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal has come under fire for not stopping the recent execution of Troy Davis, who was convicted of killing off-duty police Savannah police officer and Columbus native Mark MacPhail, despite the fact that state law prohibits the governor from stopping an execution.
