TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- An appellate court has ruled that a woman couldn't be found guilty just because she has a unique name.
The 1st District Court of Appeal on Thursday reversed Titilayo Dokun's conviction on a public assistance fraud charge.
The court agreed that prosecutors presented "ample evidence" that someone by Dokun's name had received public assistance benefits she wasn't entitled to.
But the court ruled the state didn't prove that the defendant - a Leon County woman - was in fact the same person.
The case is Titilayo Dokun v. State of Florida, No. 1D10-4523.
