BALDWIN, Fla. -- A campaign is underway at Baldwin Middle-Senior High to score a grant with a grand prize of $50,000 to restock the school's library and buy computers.

The Clorox Corp. with its Power A Bright Future program is offering schools a chance to compete for money to support their programs. Nationwide, 1,600 schools are in competition after being selected from an application process.

"The most votes win. That's it," said school's media specialist Nancy Ballard, who wrote the application and now is recruiting votes.

Ballard said anyone can go online or text, and both are free.

Baldwin, like most schools in Duval County, received no new money this year for books or technology, said Ballard, and the school needs both.

Nyeisha Pender, a junior, agrees. She said the library is critical to learning. "We have a few new books we need a lot more," said Pender.

Voting started in late October and ends Dec. 9, according to the web site.  The school that gets the most community support for their program wins. Altogether five schools will be awarded grants following the voting.
