JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Several thousand dollars worth of furniture was stolen overnight Wednesday in a scheme that involved stealing an entire tractor-trailer.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office incident report, an unknown person drove a tractor trailer into the lot at Salem Leasing on Sportsman Club Road shortly before midnight Tuesday.

The business houses trailers for pick up and drop off.

Investigators believe the suspect then waited for an employee to open the gate, and once it was open, the suspect disabled the gate so it wouldn't close.

The business' surveillance cameras then showed the suspect attach the tractor to a Rooms To Go trailer and drive away at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday.

Hours later, according to the JSO report, an officer found the trailer on the side of Broadway Avenue, several miles away from the lot from which it was taken.

The rear lock had been cut and the trailer was empty.

The furniture was reportedly of several different makes and is worth $7,000.

The tractor was not connected to the trailer, but witnesses reported seeing the tractor attached as late as 8 a.m., though there is no description of the driver, who remains at large.
